Westminster To Host Exhibition Game with Connecticut Sled Hockey Team

Westminster First Boys’ Hockey team will play an exhibition game versus the Connecticut Sled Hockey Team on Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. at the Jackson Hockey Rink. The Connecticut Sled Hockey Team is a group of athletes who play hockey on sleds, since they cannot skate due to physical disabilities. They practice on Sundays at Westminster’s rink. The Martlets also will play on sleds in the exhibition game.

The public is invited to attend the event, which also will serve as a fund-raiser for the Bret H. Chernik Foundation. Bret was an aspiring AHL hockey official who stopped to help a stranded motorist and was hit by another vehicle, resulting in the loss of his leg. He currently is the coach of the USA Hockey National Amputee Hockey Team, and he lives in Simsbury. He will serve as referee for the game.
