Girls’ Soccer and Field Hockey Are In

Both First Girls’ Soccer and First Field Hockey earned berths in the Class A New England Tournament over the weekend. The teams will head east on Wednesday where soccer, seeded #8, faces the #1 seed Brooks at 2:00 and field hockey, seeded #7, takes on the #2 seed Nobles at 2:15. While both teams have competed in the Class B New England Tournament in recent years, this is the first season in recent memory when the two teams have both made it into Class A.

Field Hockey (12-4) has shown promise from the beginning of the season, jumping out to a 7-0 start. After a few losses, the squad finished the regular season as they started with two convincing wins. This young and energetic team has epitomized grit and grace on many occasions this fall winning a number of close games against tough opponents.

Soccer (9-5-1) has displayed great talent over the course of the season. With a number of key wins and close losses, this group of veteran and new players has learned to work together and control the field. The defense has allowed only seven goals all season while the midfield and forwards have created impressive scoring opportunities that have often resulted in beautiful goals.

While the teams face stiff competition, they are excited to play with the very best in New England and see where their skills and teamwork take them.

CHEER FROM THE SIDELINES!

First Girls' Soccer will be playing Brooks School (North Andover, Mass.) and First Girls' Field Hockey will be playing Noble & Greenough (Dedham, Mass.), on Wednesday Nov. 14. in the NEPSAC Tournaments.

As the lower seed in both sports, Westminster must travel to those two schools, and the teams would love to have alumni, parents and friends who hail from the Beantown area on the sidelines, cheering on the Black and Gold.

Given that Westminster is competing in the A Division, this is a notable accomplishment for these two teams and the school. Having two squads qualify in one season for New Englands is quite remarkable.  Go Martlets!
