Westminster Cross Country Hosts the Richard Miller Invitational

On a beautiful fall day, Westminster hosted the second annual Richard Miller Invitational. First Girls' Cross Country ran strong to a second place finish, ten points behind Williston Northampton and five points ahead of Suffield. Helena Morris '08 led the team coming in third with a time of 22:41. Annie Ulrich '09 also finished in the top ten at the number seven spot. Along with these top finishers, Westminster had a solid core of runners that were crucial to the team's strong overall placement. Chanler Murphy '09, Kathryn Brady '10, and Anne Hoyt '08 all placed in the top twenty runners. The depth of the Lady Martlets was a key factor in the race, and as new runners continue to develop, the group only looks to get stronger.

In the First Boys' race, Deerfield dominated the field with a 40-point spread between them and second place Salisbury. Colin McLaughlin '10 was the top finisher for the Martlets coming in seventeenth. Finishing close behind were Andrew Overbye '09 and Josh Zalinger '09 in twenty-third and twenty-fourth places respectively. Jacob Lee '11 and Ben Mandell '10 rounded out the top finishers for Westminster. This group of veteran and new runners continue to improve.

In their first race of the season, Second Boys' Cross Country faced a tough field. John Buchta '09 finished first for the squad with Chris Shimamoto '09 and Nik Shultz '10 following closely behind. All three were in the top thirty runners. Alfy Fernandez '09 and Graham Pastor '10 rounded out the top five Martlets. The three Martlet teams will continue to run hard and improve as they prepare for the dual meet portion of their season starting next Saturday at Kingswood-Oxford.
