Spring Trips Help Prepare for the Season

Boys’ Lacrosse

On its 15th consecutive spring trip, Boys' Lacrosse spent six days practicing and scrimmaging in Orlando, Fla., at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex. Thirty-four players and six coaches represented Westminster well, going 4-0, in competitive games against Berkshire School, Exeter's Big Red, Suffield Academy and the Waterford School from Utah. While busy and tiring, the trip was also fun and productive, helping the team prepare for another season in the intensely competitive Western New England Division I.

Girls’ Tennis

First Girls' Tennis candidates descended upon the Naples Bath and Tennis Club in Naples, Fla., for the sixth consecutive year in order to prepare for the upcoming season. Once again, it proved to be a wonderful opportunity for the girls to work out the kinks after a season of ice hockey, squash, diving and basketball. The weather cooperated, and the double sessions of drilling and practicing went without a hitch. After four days of regaining their timing and strokes, the girls scrimmaged the Community School of Naples March 19. The scrimmage was hugely successful, not so much in terms of wins and losses, but in terms of giving the girls a clearer sense of what lies ahead.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Girls' Lacrosse team spent a week of spring break in West Palm Beach, Fla., attending the Spring Fling '07, a high school and college female lacrosse tournament. This was the team’s fourth year at the Spring Fling with 26 Westminster lacrosse players spending the week practicing and then playing Florida and northeastern high school teams. The team saw a couple of college games including an exciting match up between Bowdoin and number-three ranked Gettysburg. Between practice and games, team members had time to enjoy the area and were thrilled to meet up with so many Westminster families associated with girls' lacrosse. One afternoon, the team headed up the coast for an afternoon of sailing and snorkeling. The trip was awesome, despite the lightning and hailstorm that rolled in while the team was out at sea! In the end, the girls played a lot of lacrosse, honed their skills and came together as a team.

Boys’ Tennis

Seven of the First Boys' tennis team candidates joined the girl's team at the Naples Bath and Tennis Club in Naples, Fla., for five days of play and training March 15-20. This is the sixth consecutive year that the program has gone to Naples. The team had two, two-and-a-half hour sessions each day utilizing many of the top tennis professionals at the club. The team also played the Community School of Naples in a scrimmage during the final afternoon and acquitted themselves very well. During down time, the players relaxed at the pool or at the beach and participated in a variety of activities in the evening. The trip was a tremendous success as well as productive and fun.
