Matthew Emmel Named Finalist in National Merit Scholarship Program
Matthew Emmel, a Sixth Former, has been named a Finalist in the 2007 Merit Scholarship competition and is being considered for a Merit Scholarship award and the Merit Scholar title.
He is among 15,000 Finalists in the program competing for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards that will be announced beginning in April and concluding in July.
To become a Finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the head of school and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier qualifying test performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
Emmel, a summus student, is an active member of the Westminster community. He is editor of the school newspaper, serves on the board of the community service organization Serving our Neighbors (SON), competes on the golf and squash teams, and participates in technical theater.
