Description: Since 1973, Wilderness Ventures has been conducting exciting expeditions for beginners and experienced you adults, ages 13 through 20. Expeditions visit a variety of wilderness environments in the Western United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Europe, Australia, Central America and South America, and the South Pacific for extended periods. Students learn outdoor group leadership skills as well as gain an appreciation for various wilderness environments. Activities include backpacking, whitewater rafting and kayaking, mountaineering, biking, sailing, SCUBA, canoeing, sea kayaking, and community service. Participants come from nearly every state and several countries. Enrollment is limited, and applicants must submit school references prior to admission. Previous wilderness experience is not necessary.

Description: While traveling with Windsor Mountain, you will learn about community building both within your group and in the many places you visit. From these experiences you will grow in your appreciation of other cultures and other ways of living, while making lasting friendships. Aid: To ensure access to a broad range of well qualified and enthusiastic students, Windsor Mountain encourages students who require financial assistance to apply for support to participate in our international summer camp and student travel programs. Typically 20% of our student body receives some amount of financial aid. Our Financial Aid committee carefully considers several factors: family income; ethnic, racial and cultural diversity; teacher references; and commitment to the program as reflected in the application and through past Windsor Mountain experiences. Description: Glimpses of China is a summer study opportunity in Shanghai that is designed for students who are interested in the history, culture, and arts of China as well as the issues relating to the momentous changes -- economic, political, societal, and how China relates to the rest of the world -- that China is going through.
Major components of the four-week program include: lectures and seminars on 13 different courses, an extensive range of field studies, small group Mandarin tutorials, arts appreciation workshops, evening speakers, Chinese films and opera, a short homestay, and visits and excursions to major landmarks and three cities near Shanghai.
For 2007, two sessions will be offered: the first from June 26 to July 23, and the second from July 26 to August 22. Two optional Extension Programs are offered before or after each main program session: Mandarin learning in a homestay setting, and a Glimpses-of-China-style travel program to Beijing, Xian, and Chengdu. Admission to the program is competitive and on a rolling basis. Application deadline is March 31.

Description: Each summer, high school seniors, juniors, and sophomores attend the Harvard Secondary School Program (SSP). Students live in Harvard Yard and take Harvard courses for college credit. The SSP offers a full range of college courses, and also many College Prep activities. Students may visit New England colleges, attend the College Fair, and hear a presentation by a Harvard admissions officer. Harvard students serve as proctors and as tutors, providing guidance in all areas of college life. Activities include intramural athletics, dances, movies, a Trivia Bowl and a Talent Show, and sightseeing trips to Boston and New England. Aid: Students apply for financial aid after acceptance to SSP. A typical SSP financial aid award covers only a portion of tuition. Many students who apply for SSP financial aid also seek other sources of funding. Early application is advised.
