“Museum” Offered a Laughter-Filled Evening

DS
The Westminster Dramatic Association’s presentation of Tina Howe’s hilarious comedy, Museum, at the Werner Centennial Center Nov. 9-11, offered a fun-filled evening of theater for all. Students constructed the set, created artwork, served on the production crew, performed in the play and managed the Box Office.

Museum, a comedy of absurdities about art, artists and the whole world, was written in 1976 and takes place on the final day of a group show of three fictitious contemporary American artists in a major museum of modern art. People from all walks of life visit the show, titled “The Broken Silence,” including art lovers, skeptics, international visitors, students, lost souls and fellow artists. The visitors’ noisy and hands-on viewing of art in the show causes multiple problems for a museum guard who longs for the last day of the show to end.

Museum offered a wide range of characters for student actors to play with many actors playing multiple parts. The cast spent the day at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City during the rehearsal period to explore their characterizations in a museum setting and observe how people behave while viewing art.

“All of the hard work the cast and crew put into building the set and rehearsing for this production resulted in extremely positive responses from the audiences who attended our three evenings of performances,” said Mark Bishop, Director of Theater. “We now look forward to beginning work on our winter musical, Footloose, that will be performed Friday, February 16th through Sunday the 18th.”
