Blood Drive for the American Red Cross Sets Record

PN/DS
Westminster’s eighth Blood Drive for the American Red Cross held Nov. 13 at Pettee Gym resulted in the collection of 69 units of blood, a school record. The collected blood could possibly save 207 different lives.

Eighty student and faculty donors, including many first-timers, as well as numerous bakers and drive volunteers helped make the drive the most successful yet. Kim Tawney and Robin Newman ’87 directed the drive.

Holding blood drives at Westminster originated with the officers of the Class of 2003 who decided one week after the tragic events of 9/11 that they wanted to do something to help out. The Westminster Blood Drive for the American Red Cross, later dedicated to Olivia Tawney, has been a huge success ever since.
