A Close Match
The girls had a close match against Taft today. Co-Captain Westie Strawbridge ‘24 lost her first match since last year at Taft. Co-Captain Colby Smith ‘24, Lilly Murphy ‘25, and Co-Captain Eliza Cabot ‘24 picked up the slack in singles giving the Martlets a 3-1 lead. Avery Gray ‘26 and Luna Yang ‘26 were tied at 3-3 in #1 doubles before pulling away for the fourth and deciding match point. Lucy Morton ‘26 and Virginia Whiting ‘26 fought back from 4-6 to take a 7-6 lead before being told to play a tie-breaker at 7-7, denying Morton the chance to use her formidable serve once more. In the tiebreaker Morton and Whiting had a 5-3 advantage but couldn’t hold on. At #3 doubles freshmen Kitty Olson and Veronica Edwards were down 0-6 before finding their footing and recovering to 3-8. Gray played an exhibition match with Lily Wendler ‘24 and pulled off a 6-2 win.
