A Win on the Road

Marleigh Monroe '24 had 13 strikeouts and allowed just five Worcester hits as the Martlets defeated the Hilltoppers in a fine 6-3 win on the road. Westy trailed 1-0 until Mia Magriz '25 tied the game with an RBI base hit in the third frame. Emily Ginter '24 singled to right field to open the fourth inning, and Paige Herlihy '25 drew a walk. Lily Shuster '27 drove in a run with a hard hit single to center.  Monroe then hit a rope to left field, and Olivia Gordon '24 followed by crushing a triple which scored two runs. In the top of the fifth, Ginter lined a double to right field and Herlihy followed with an RBI single, extending the Martlet lead to 6-1. Worcester battled back by scoring a run in both the 5th and 6th frames, but Monroe struck out three consecutive batters to end the game in the seventh. Defensively, Meiyin Ren '25 was strong behind the plate in her first game catching. There were also some huge fielding plays turned in by the Black and Gold. In the fourth inning, Magriz made a diving catch on a line drive and dashed to the third base bag to double up a Worcester runner. In the bottom of the sixth, Gabby de la Fe '25 stifled a Hilltopper rally by making a great running catch on a deep fly ball to right field. The Martlets will next play at Canterbury on Tuesday, 4/30.
