General Summary
Westminster School has an exciting opportunity for an HVAC Technician on its Simsbury, CT campus.  Reporting to the Trades Manager, the HVAC Technician is responsible for the proper maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for Westminster School, which consists of 38 buildings. This is a 1st shift, 40-hour per week, 12-month position. The schedule is Tuesday-Saturday during September-May and Monday-Friday during June-August. Evenings, weekends, and special events will be required as needed.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete maintenance of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems on campus:
    • Boiler cleaning
    • Filter replacement (ventilation systems)
    • Boiler tune-up and replacement
    • Pneumatic control repair
    • Servicing of heat pumps
    • Minor plumbing repairs
    • Maintaining and servicing ice machines and kitchen equipment
  • Install new HVAC units in buildings on campus (residential and commercial).
  • Install ductwork and thermostats to control HVAC system.
  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure they operate properly.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot problems with existing HVAC units.
  • Install replacement parts on existing HVAC units.
  • Maintain inventory of replacement parts and orders replacements.
  • Respond to emergency situations and resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls when needed.
  • Clear snow and ice from walks, stairs, and pathways as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Trades Manager to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the maintenance department.
 
Job Qualifications
  • HVAC S2 license required.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong experience working as an HVAC technician. Experience in a campus setting with commercial buildings is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of gas fireplaces.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of all aspects of building maintenance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is a must.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as with others.
  • Must be positive and get along with visitors, vendors, students, and colleagues.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
