A Valiant Effort on Senior Day

After two canceled matches against Salisbury and Eaglebrook last week, the Martlets were eager to kick off the spring season with Choate visiting. As our first and only home game this season, we celebrated our seniors and co-captains, Kimi Weng ‘24 and Harvey DeMovick ‘24, with a senior day of sorts and a team photo for the yearbook. Afterward, our matches began earnestly with four singles and three doubles set against a gloomy, chilly backdrop. Captain Kimi Weng ‘24 fought valiantly at the top of the ladder, playing a slice to excellent effect but eventually losing 5-8, while Tyson Mertz ‘27 dug in against his opponent in the third seed but fell 4-8. Paolo Wan ‘26 and James Teng ‘26 perhaps had the most tension-filled match of the afternoon. At one point, they went down 0-6, but they clawed back into the match bit by bit. Although the comeback did not happen, they should be proud of their effort, ending the match at a respectable 6-8. We travel to Rectory this Saturday for our next match.
