Martlets Prevail

On a sunny spring day, the Martlets prevailed in a hard fought win over Loomis. Melody El-Amin '27 blasted a solo homer over the leftfield fence in the first inning to give Westminster an early lead. Marleigh Monroe '24 began the game by striking out seven Loomis batters over the first three innings. The combination of runners advancing on passed balls and a line drive base hit by Anna Hassett '27 gave Westy a 3-1 lead. Gabby de la Fe '26 opened the fifth frame with a hard earned walk and also added a single later in the inning. Olivia Gordon '24, Monroe, El-Amin, and Mia Magriz '25 had four consecutive base hits and Westy took an 8-1 lead after five innings. A combination of Pelican hits and situational mistakes by the Martlets led to drama in the seventh frame. However, Gordon and Graves made key plays in the field to seal the win. Gordon was exceptional at second base all afternoon, and Graves made two important catches in centerfield. Monroe showed grit on the mound. Westminster will play at home against Taft on Wednesday.
