Good Team Effort and Attitude

Westminster traveled to Watertown on a cold and windy afternoon to take on the Taft Rhinos. The Martlets battled hard for all four quarters, but ultimately struggled to slow down a big, fast, and physical Rhino squad, losing 12-2. In the first quarter, Westminster held the Rhinos to two goals and capitalized on some man-up opportunities, leading to a goal from midfielder Auggie Jiranek ’27. Taft broke the game open in the second quarter, however, as the Martlets struggled to clear the ball out of their defensive zone, putting the Rhinos up 8-1 at the half. Westminster regrouped at halftime and never gave up. Led by Wayne Kelly ’27 and Brooks Berthiaume ’27, dependably tenacious and skillful Third Form defensemen, the Martlets improved their defense in the second half. Attackman Andrew Sala ’26 scored the Martlets’ second goal late in the fourth quarter and the team kept competing until the final whistle. While there is a lot to work on in preparation for Wednesday’s trip to Salisbury, the coaches remain proud of the team’s attitude and effort.
