Martlets Fall to Rhinos

The Rhinos ran into the confines of Pettee Gymnasium on Senior Day to take on the Martlets. The Black and Gold were reliant on distance shooting early led by Jin Lee ‘24 and Finn Williams ‘26. The Rhinos’s zone kept the Martlets out of the paint in the first half. Taft took advantage of some loose balls and turnovers for easier baskets in transition resulting in a 27-16 lead into the locker room at the end of the first half. As they have the whole season, the Black and Gold came out and competed to cut down the lead. Finn Cathey ‘26 had two steals and a putback basket, Williams had a key block, and Marschke ‘24 was determined to make one final layup on senior day. The Martlets cut it down to four but could not generate enough momentum to take the lead. Lee and Williams led the way with 13 and 12 respectively. Marschke’s leadership and communication continued to stymie a Rhino offense. Aidan Walsh ‘24 helped engineer the triangle on the offensive side in his final game and Logan Sun ‘24 came up with a loose ball. The Pride of Rumson, Hugh Olson ‘25, and Mike Basich ‘26 helped bring a greater intensity on the glass in the second half. The Martlets competed in their final game of the season. Thanks to all the parents and JV faithful for their support this season.
