Martlets Fall to DA

After leading by 12 at the end of the first half, Westminster struggled in the third quarter, and gave up the lead. Trailing by as many as seven points, the Martlets battled back in the 4th quarter to tie the game. Westminster had a chance with 10 seconds left in regulation, but a missed jump shot led to overtime. Haley Cramer ‘24 and Delia Lockwood ‘26 were outstanding from the free-throw line in overtime, but the Martlets fell 65-61. Westminster began the game with an 11-2 run. Eva Rodgers’ 25 Lauren Neuman ‘25, and Cramer hit big three-pointers in the second quarter giving the Martlets a 28-16 lead at halftime. Deerfield’s press caused turnovers in the third quarter. Deerfield was able to score 22 points to lead by 5 heading into the 4th quarter. Rodgers scored nine of her 16 points in the fourth and the Martlets were able to take the lead back with three minutes to go. After a couple of lead changes, the score was tied, and Cramer had an open look at the end of regulation. Overtime began with both teams trading baskets and then Deerfield was able to hit a three pointer to take the lead for good. Westminster battled as Lockwood went five for six from the free throw line in the extra period. The Girls return to action on Friday night in West Hartford.
