Martlets Fall to Williston

The rare back-to-back for the Black and Gold as the Martlets flew up I-91 to take on the Wildcats of Williston in the Cain Family Athletic Center. Williston came out hot, converting three three-pointers and hitting some contested jumpers from pressure defense by Alexei Kocatas ‘25 and Rhys Marschke ‘24. The Martlets kept up with a quick pace as Jin Lee ‘24, Ethan Hernandez ‘27, and Finn Williams ‘26 added splashes from deep of their own. Aidan Walsh injected energy off the bench, scoring five of his seven on the day in the first half, and Finn Cathey ‘26 converted on a free-throw at the line. Alexei drained a three-pointer from far out as the first half expired and the Martlets trailed 32-28. The Wildcats responded to the Black and Gold run coming out with a 7-0 run to start the second half, but the team dug in and competed. Michael Basich ‘26 and Draven Chung ‘26 notched points on the interior. Defense led the way in the second half as the pride of Rumson, Hugh Olson ‘25, chased down a Wildcat ball handler for a steal and the bright yellow taped wrist of Marschke blinded some Wildcat shooters as the game tied up at 46 in the second half. Williams took it to the rim with authority, and Jin Lee ‘24 added eight points out of his eleven on the afternoon. The Martlets competed, fought hard on a back-to-back, but missed too many free throws at the line to walk out of an opposing gym with a win against a solid opponent. The Black and Gold welcome Taft on Saturday for their final game of the season in Pettee Gymnasium.
