Martlets Fall on the Road

For our final away game of the season, the Martlets hopped on I-91 to challenge Williston Northampton. The game started strong. Although we turned the ball over several times in our early possessions, the team settled down and started to hit a rhythm, especially from the perimeter. Wills Lown ‘24 hit some early threes to keep us neck-and-neck with Williston, and he worked hard all game, fighting for boards and getting inside for layups off of well-timed cuts, eventually putting up fourteen points. But at some point, our offense started to stagnate with limited ball movement against a strong Williston man-to-man defense. At the same time, Williston hit their stride offensively, hitting contested threes and getting decent looks around the basket. Williston also won the battle for rebounds but not for lack of effort from Austin Black ‘24, who ground out a battle in the post for offensive and defensive boards. Unfortunately, our struggles in the first half continued in the second. Our successful offense came from the solid perimeter shooting of Johnny Hadden ‘24, who hit four three-pointers in the second half. Still, we struggled to establish any inside presence, which constrained our offensive capabilities. We look forward to taking on Taft this coming Saturday at home for the final game of the season.
