Martlets Knock-off Gunn

Along the banks of the Shepaug River, the Martlets climbed the hills of Washington, CT to take on the Highlanders of the Frederick Gunn School. Draven Chung ‘26 collected rent in the paint against a sizable Highlander frontline, earning six first half points out of his total twelve and double-double on the day. Hugh Olson ‘25 added three points and Aidan Walsh ‘24 secured two more on a drive to the rim as the Martlets took an early lead. The Highlanders made a run towards the end of the half closing the gap heading into the locker room. The Martlets defense barrelled into the Emerson Fitness Center like a Northern Railroad Train pulling into the station in Litchfield County. Rhys Marschke ‘24 continued his role as distributor, creating chances for teammates Hugh Olson and Liam Murray ‘26. Will Whiting ‘24 netted a three-pointer off a screen from Murray, one of his two in the second half. Finn Williams ‘26 and Mike Basich ‘26 added to the scoring total as the Martlets flapped their wings in extending the lead midway through the second half. Brody DiBeneditto ‘26, Logan Sun ‘24, and Ethan Hernandez ‘27 all contributed with steals as the Martlet defense held the Highlanders to seven points in the second half for the 34-23 win. Sunday brings a day for rest for the undermanned Black and Gold off three games in four days. But fear not JV faithful, the team heads to the Berkshires on a business trip next Wednesday as the Martlets look to capitalize on two straight road wins.
