Martlets Defeat Canterbury

The Martlets welcomed the Saints of Canterbury making the trek up Route 202 into Pette Gym. From the opening whistle Draven Chung ‘26 collected rent in the paint, picking up a flurry of interior baskets and a commanding presence on the glass on his way to a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds. Alex Wood ‘25 and Will Whiting ‘24 helped command the ball with good passes, collecting assists and creating chances for their teammates. Ethan Hernandez ‘27 added a ferocious block conveying that the Martlet defense was playing from the opening tip. Rhys Marschke ‘24 was the tide that lifted all ships, picking up two assists, four points, forcing jump balls, and frustrating the Saints guards with his presence. The team took a lead into the half but there was work to be done in securing a win. Hugh Olson ‘25 helped lockdown some potent shooters from the Saints on his help defense. Olson finished with six rebounds, including a picture perfect interior cut down the heart of the defense. Jin Lee ‘24 reached into his tricks, notching 11 of his 15 points in the second half. Finn Williams ‘26 eliminated the oxygen to breathe with his close outs in the corner against a Saint offense that found some momentum in the second half. Brody DiBeneditto ‘26 secured an important late rebound and handled some late backcourt pressure from the Saints. Finn Cathey ‘26 assisted an open Logan Sun ‘24 converting a last second basket, causing the bench to erupt. The Martlets came out on top with a 48-33 win, but most importantly, it was a team victory. The team fought through some injuries and played with great energy. Dawn arises tomorrow bringing another challenge as the Knights of Marianapolis ride to Williams Hill.
