Martlets lose tight games

In their second game of the tournament, the girls faced a tough team from MacDuffie School. Once again, the girls started strong and the score was tied after the first period. MacDuffie pulled away in the 2nd quarter and led by 9 at halftime. Behind the hot shooting of Eva Rodgers ‘25, the Martlets closed the gap to 6 points in the 3rd quarter. MacDuffie then went on a run and closed out the game with a 14 point win. Haley Cramer ‘24 was the hardest working player on the court and she kept Westminster close with her aggressive game. Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 provided valuable minutes in the second half after Cramer was called for her fifth foul.

In a tough battle, the Martlets fell in overtime to the Saints. Westminster began the game shooting well. Parker Perillo ‘26 and Eva Rodgers ’25 paced the Martlets in the 1st period with 6 and 8 points respectively. Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 added some free throws in the 2nd quarter and the Martlets led 28-23 at halftime. The lid then closed for Westminster. Shot after shot missed the mark and the Saints managed to tie the game at 30 after three quarters. Led by Haley Cramer ‘24 12 points in the 4th quarter, Westminster took the lead and held it until the very end of the game. The Saints threw in two deep three pointers in OT and held on for a 53-50 victory. While the final score was disappointing, the girls should be proud of their effort and they should look forward to playing Canterbury again later in the season.
