Martlets Defeat Porter's

The Martlets were able to pull out a 6 v 1 win against Miss Porters and set the tone for the rest of the matches happening in the squash pavilion on this day. Sophia Lazor ‘27, Elle Wilson ‘26, Margaret Dilks ‘24 and Alice Tao ‘24 were able to pull off quick impressive wins in three. Natasha Johnson ‘27, Meiyin Ren ‘25 and Nora Davis ‘24 had to fight a little harder this match because they were both playing up. Natash was able to snatch the win in four games. She fought hard and took criticism well to be able to switch the game in her favor. Meiyin displayed great endurance and tenacity being down the first two games and then coming back from being down 4-10 match ball in the third game to make it a close match losing in the fifth game 7-11. Nora was pretty evenly matched in her opponent and even though she fought hard her opponent took the win in the fifth game. Emily Fonner ‘26 reminded everyone why it is important to never give up and why squash matches are best three out of five. The odds seemed stacked against her for this match after recovering from a recent injury and having an opponent who was hungry for a win. She lost the first game by two points, won the next two and then lost the fourth by eleven points. At that point Emily wasn’t sure if she could take the match home but after some encouraging words from her teammates and coaches she found the strength to secure the win in the fifth game by sticking to traditional squash and using her opponents weaknesses to win  by four points. The Martlets displayed a lot of good sportsmanship and squash playing for this match. We are excited for the first away match of the season this upcoming Saturday against Westover School!
