Martlets Fall to Choate

On Wednesday the 3BS Martlets trekked south down to Wallingford to take on the Wild Boars. Our boys played arguably their best half of soccer in the first half of the game: numerous give-and-go passes, good verbal communications, positive support for each other, and plenty of scoring opportunities. While we opened play dominating ball control, Choate had the first good scoring opportunity in the 10th minute. This chance was nicely tipped/deflected over the crossbar by our goalie, Brenden Gilooly ‘26. At the 13th minute mark Lane Gallagher ‘25, ripped a shot off the post, but the Choate goalie was able to cover the rebound before Lane could tuck it away. Several minutes later (16’) Lane took a corner kick, Gus McGarvey ‘26 settled the ball and passed to Jake Pleau ‘26 who scored, giving the Martlets the 1-0 lead. This lead held until the last minute of the half when the Boars took advantage of a ball that bounced over our defender’s head for a breakaway goal. The second half was more of a back-and-forth match with both teams gaining several scoring opportunities. In addition to the hit post in the first half, we struck metal several more times during the game. Choate finally broke the tie with a nice finish from low on the left side with a shot that hit the far post and into the goal. 3BS looks forward to playing Salisbury again on Saturday of Parents & Family Weekend.
