Writer Jonathan Gillman to Give April 24 Reading

Writer Jonathan Gillman will give a reading at Westminster April 24 as a part of the school’s Friday Nights in Gund, a series of readings, lectures and concerts held at Westminster during the academic year. The student reader will be Shelby Gamble ’15 whose story, “Lazer’s Hill,” took first place in the English Department’s Short Story Writing Contest this year.
 
Gillman is the head of the theater department at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, a public magnet arts high school, and the director of Looking In Theatre, a teen interactive social issue theater group. In addition to poetry, he also writes fiction, nonfiction, plays and children’s stories. His most recent book, “My Father, Humming,” deals with his father’s decline with Alzheimer’s and resulted in Gillman being named one of six finalists for the 2014 Paterson Poetry Prize.
 
Gillman’s Westminster reading is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in Sejong Lecture Hall of Armour Academic Center. Refreshments will be served after the presentation and ample parking will be available in the parking lot adjacent to Armour Academic Center.
