"Westminster School seeks curious and engaged students who want to grow and learn in a challenging and supportive environment. Students who are motivated to become their best selves both in and out of the classroom, taking advantage of the myriad of opportunities Westminster has to offer."
"At Westminster, we aspire to an extraordinarily ambitious commitment to secondary education, a commitment to nurture the joyous participation of our diverse school community across our entire program, from our academic classrooms, to our studios and labs, to our gyms, fields and rink, and to our service to Hartford community partners. Westminster students are inspired by opportunities to make a difference in all their endeavors."
"By the time students prepare to leave Westminster to further their academic experience in college, we hope to have instilled a nascent passion for a number of disciplines."
"Visual and performing artists at Westminster gain an understanding of traditions and methods while gaining confidence, analytical thinking and public presentation skills. Students also learn self-expression, collaboration and leadership while supportive faculty instill a lifelong appreciation of the arts."
David Chrzanowski Head of Visual and Performing Arts Department
"Athletic success at Westminster is measured not only by wins and losses, but through the bonds created between teammates and coaches, individual and team improvement, and personal growth. When students learn how to be competitors and how to cooperate with one another, they are better prepared to be citizens of the global world."
"Driven by a desire to serve young people and aware of the obligation of a private school to serve a public purpose, Westminster School's mission statement concludes with the call ‘to commit to a life of service beyond self.’ Westminster's Hartford partnership programs are the outgrowth of that mission with a direct impact on the young people of Hartford."
Kathleen Devaney Executive Director, Hartford Partnerships and Horizons at Westminster
Westminster is home to a proud tradition of aquatic excellence, and the construction of the Hibbard Pool in 2003 has only served as a catalyst in attracting talented swimmers and divers into the community. Featuring an eight-lane, 25-yard pool with two Maxiflex one-meter springboards, a state-of-the-art Daktronics timing system and a cutting-edge fitness and weight training facility, the swim center is one of the top high school aquatic venues in all of New England.
The Westminster Swimming and Diving Team is a group of student-athletes dedicated to their academic pursuits, to the sports of swimming and diving, and to each other as teammates and friends. Each swimmer and diver shares a commitment to success at both the individual and team levels, and works to achieve his or her goals through focused training, healthy habits and team unity. Members of a seasoned coaching staff with numerous years of experience are on deck to guide and nurture our swimmers and divers.
The prep school swimming and diving season runs from mid-November to early March, during which time athletes practice daily and compete on Saturdays among many of the top swimming schools in New England. The coaching staff works closely with swimmers to improve stroke efficiency, build aerobic endurance, and prepare athletes for inspired performance both physiologically and mentally.
In 2019 the boys won their first team title at the New England Prep School Division II Championships. The boys team finished the 2020 season ranked second in the NEPSAC.
The 2020-2021 season marks coach Grant Gritzmacher’s 18th season at the helm of Westminster’s Swim and Dive Program. A native of Essex, Conn., Gritzmacher attended Hopkins School in New Haven where he earned All-American honors in swimming and was crowned All-American National Champion three times in diving. Gritzmacher was a five-year member of the U.S. Junior National Diving Team, and continued to dive at the University of Texas at Austin. There, he achieved NCAA All-American honors and studied environmental resource management and geology.
