Horizons at Westminster is part of a national network of summer school programs. The objective of the program is to build a “bridge” from one academic year to the next, a time when students can lose the connection to the regular practice of reading and math. This relationship with books and numbers forms an essential life-long connection with school and learning. Horizons at Westminster programs help to cement that connection.
Horizons at Westminster is the outgrowth of Westminster’s 17 year commitment to Hartford in the form of the Crossroads Program, most recently known as the Westminster Crossroads Learning Program in Hartford (WCLP). WCLP’s mission statement embodied its goals and these goals continue to inform and guide Horizons at Westminster:
The Westminster Crossroads Learning Program in Hartford (WCLP) represents Westminster’s effort to expand its commitment to the common good by extending its core value of community into the Hartford public schools and beyond. Further, WCLP seeks to provide Westminster with ongoing partnerships that reveal the essential perspective of Hartford’s residents, especially its young people. Ultimately, WCLP seeks broad kinship.
In short, the wide discretionary powers that Horizons National offers each of its sites has brought together the dynamic energies of Westminster School, WCLP, and Horizons National into one new organization — Horizons at Westminster.
