Martlets Get a Hard-Fought Win at Home

Westminster would host Williston on an unusually hot October day. Both teams started off a bit slow and would knock the ball around and play possession to start off. Westminster would have a great chance midway through the first half as Aly Tolba '18 would steal a ball and head in all alone, but the Williston keeper would come up with a huge save. Riley Wood '19 would get the home team on the board first converting a cross from Paul McNamara '18 off a nice pass from John Clofine '21. In the second half the visitors came out strong and had multiple pointblank chances which Westminster goalie Peyton Knauf '19 would have to turn away. Williston would even the score about 15 minutes into the second half on a cross and back post finish. Westminster would push late and have a number of good crosses. With nine minutes to go, Nate Pane '19 would finish a hard driven ball low to the corner that would be the game winner from just inside the 18-yard box. Chanler Miller '18 and Gabe Grimeh '19 would run hard and play great defense against Williston's 6' 5’’ target guy up top. The game ball would go to Knauf who finished with seven saves. Westminster is back in action Friday as the team hosts Kingswood.
