Students Achieve at Musical Festivals

Last November, five Westminster students auditioned for the Northern Region Music Festival, of which Khalil Walker ’19, Johanna Hultin ’18 and Mike Riberdy ’18 scored high enough to be accepted. The festival took place Jan. 13-14 at New Britain High School.

Westminster Music Director David Chrzanowski was honored to serve as accompanist for the festival choir, which included around 200 students from northern Connecticut. Over two days, the singers rehearsed with a choir director from Central Connecticut State University and put on a performance that Saturday afternoon in front of an audience of more than 800 people.

On Jan. 28, the three Westminster students also traveled to North Haven High School to audition for the All-State Music Festival. This highly competitive audition included nearly a thousand students from the entire state of Connecticut.

Of the three Westminster students, Mike Riberdy scored high enough to get into the All-State Choir, which will rehearse and perform at the Connecticut Convention Center March 30-April 1. “This is a tremendous honor for Mike to perform with many other incredible musicians from around the state,” said David.
