"Westminster School seeks curious and engaged students who want to grow and learn in a challenging and supportive environment. Students who are motivated to become their best selves both in and out of the classroom, taking advantage of the myriad of opportunities Westminster has to offer."
“At Westminster, we aspire to an extraordinarily ambitious commitment to secondary education, a commitment to nurture the participation of our diverse school community across our entire program — from academics, to studios and labs, gyms, fields and rink, and service to our Hartford community partners. Westminster students are inspired by opportunities to make a difference in all their endeavors.”
"Through gritty trial and error, Westminster students grow into independent learners who are curious, critical thinkers. With the support of faculty, students gain the skills to understand the world around them and enrich their communities at school and beyond."
"The visual and performing arts program at Westminster weaves the community together and nurtures the spirit of the Westminster campus. The arts at Westminster inspire students of all levels of experience from the very beginner to the advanced artist to practice the freedom of creative self-expression. Professional teachers guide students to work through the creative process from inception to the presentation, building a lifelong respect and appreciation for the arts."
Kerry Kendall Head of Visual and Performing Arts Department
"Athletic success at Westminster is measured not only by wins and losses, but through the bonds created between teammates and coaches, individual and team improvement, and personal growth. When students learn how to be competitors and how to cooperate with one another, they are better prepared to be citizens of the global world."
“Driven by a desire to serve young people and conscious of the opportunities for private schools to support a public purpose, Westminster School’s mission statement concludes with the call ‘to commit to a life of service beyond self.’ Westminster’s Hartford Partnership programs aim to deliver on that mission while making a direct impact on people and programs in Hartford.”
Patrick Owens Executive Director, Horizons at Westminster & Hartford Partnerships
“Involvement will be the key to your success at Westminster School. Get involved with the arts, try a sport you've never played, start your own club, run for student council. You will get out of this experience exactly what you put into it. Do these things early in your life — keep seeking more opportunities for growth.”
“Support for Westminster School provides a way to remember the past, shape the present and steward the future of the school.”

Model U.N. Team Has Best-Ever Conference Experience at Yale
Westminster’s Model U.N. delegation ventured south to New Haven Jan. 19-22 to participate in Yale’s annual Model United Nations conference. They joined more than 1,500 students from around the world to debate and engage in international issues.
“With a number of newcomers in the group, this was the most invested group, I have ever escorted to Yale,” said Betsy Heckman, who serves as head of the History Department. Led by four-year veteran Elizabeth Brewer ’17, the Martlets worked hard preparing for their committees and researching the two countries they represented: Iran and the Republic of Congo. In addition, a number of students applied for and were accepted in specialized committees, which are smaller, more intense experiences for the students.
In addition to the 17 hours of committee sessions, students also had the opportunity to take advantage of Yale Day, for which the university offered special master classes and workshops. The participants also gathered together Friday to watch the inauguration and eat some bagels. The delegates found the weekend to be intellectually stimulating as well as an opportunity to make new friends and have some fun away from the Hill.
While the entire Model U.N. team put forth a great effort in and outside of committee to complete research, write working papers and pass resolutions, six delegates were singled out for their accomplishments this year. Newcomers Morgan Peirce ’17 in the U.N Environmental Program, Amelia Knochel ’19 in the U.N. Women committee and Olivia Zhang ’20 in UNESCO all were commended at the closing ceremonies for their contributions in committee. Elizabeth Brewer worked with Third Former Daniel Pinckney on a new committee that simulated the International Court of Justice. Out of many applicants, they were chosen to be the advocates in a case representing Japan. The duo had to complete hours and hours of preparation leading up to the conference and were subjected to relentless examination over the course of the weekend. In acknowledgement of their efforts, Daniel and Elizabeth received honorable advocate awards for excellence in representing Japan. In addition, Nick Wee ’18, who represented Iran in the Legal Committee, earned honorable mention for his outstanding performance.
“From the good weather to the dedicated participation and positive attitude of all participants, this trip to YMUN ranks as the best conference experience to date,” said Betsy. “With a number of underformers in the group, this bodes well for the future of Model U.N. at Westminster. Well done, Martlets!”
