Martlets Fall to Rumsey

The last regular season soccer game and Senior Day saw the 3rds Girls Team fall to Rumsey Hall 5-0. As it was earlier in the season, the speed and control of the opposing strikers were too much for the defense to handle and Rumsey staked themselves to a 3-0 lead within the first 12 minutes of the half. As has been the case all season, the girls did not give up and played hard all the way through the second half, and only let in 2 more. The game saw the return of two players which brought a spark to the team: Elizabeth Wolf ‘23 and Charlotte Grey Swope ‘26. Charlotte was able to make her presence felt right away with a kick save on a pass right in front of the net. Grace Doherty’24 continued to make great plays catching up to Rumsey attacks and forcing them to make bad shots. Emily Fonner ‘26 played the first half in goal, and came out for the second half at midfield. She created several opportunities for Sarah Rocchio’24 and Chandler Green ‘23 with controlled passes down the sideline. Despite the loss, the girls felt very positive about their play and their growth over the course of the season. The team will miss their seniors: Chandler Green ‘23, Elizabeth Wolf ‘23, Margaret Breen ‘23 and Carly Liebenthal ‘23.
