Martlets Fall to IMS

The 3rds Girls made the long journey to Lakeville down quite a few players. Thankfully, the coaches from IMS agreed to play a short handed game of 8 vs.8. As has been the case in many of the games this year, Westminster found themselves down early and had no answer for the speedy IMS players and their sharp ball control. They went into the half down 4-0. After regrouping at the half, the team found some hidden energy and were able to work the ball on the opponent’s half of the field for a majority of the final 30 minutes. Emily Fonner ‘26 moved out of her normal goalie position to play midfield and scored both goals, with one assist coming from Sarah Rocchio ‘24 and the other from Lila Schumann ‘26. Lucy Morton ‘26 seemed to be everywhere on the field at once, and helped the team tremendously in both halves. Sunshine Li ‘26 had one of her best games of the season on defense and was able to retrieve several drives from IMS in the second half. Despite an injury to Sarah Rocchio’24 late in the game, the team felt good about their play today and look forward to their final game next Wednesday.
