Martlets Shutout Granby

The fog lifted and the sun arrived on Wilbraham Field at the same time as the Granby Bears who returned to Simsbury for the rubber match of a three game series with the Martlets. Once again Granby was without any subs, a challenge made more difficult by the unseasonably warm temperatures. Nonetheless, the Martlets competed hard for seventy minutes, securing an 8-0 victory. Danny Maher ‘26 played the majority of the game in goal, communicating well and making several athletic saves. Several Martlets scored their first goals of the season (Tyler Ungerman ‘26, Cole Hadden ‘26, Alex Martinez ‘26, Jack Fichthorn ‘26, and Paolo Wan ‘26), inspiring much excitement from their teammates. Paolo’s goal, the final of the day, was perhaps the most memorable, the result of an impressive string of Martlet passes. Westminster will get back to work to prepare for a strong performance in both Monday’s “Martlet Mush” and next week’s game against perennial junior boarding school powerhouse Rumsey Hall.
