Martlets Fall on the Road

After what felt like a week of rain the sun would come out for a great Founders League matchup between the Martlets and Pelicans. Westminster knew they would have to dig deep as a team with a short bench. Early in the match, Leo DiStefano ‘24 would have a great chance off a low-driven cross by Gabe Mays-Sanchez ‘23 but it would be swallowed up by the Loomis keeper. Westminster did a nice job clogging the middle of the field but Loomis would find chances on the net. Getting his first start of the season in goal for the Martlets would be Sebastien Blanc ‘23 who had a fabulous game in net with 13 saves. Loomis would take a 1-0 into half. The second half was more of the same with both teams working hard to get up and down the field. The back line of Theo Massie-Vereker ‘23, Mason Clarke ‘23, Jackson Raymond ‘24, Kade Smith ‘23, and Jaden Goodsell ‘23 played extremely well. In the 76th min, it would be Westminster on the attack down the right side of the field with May-Sanchez playing in another dangerous ball that Massie-Vereker would hammer home for a 1-1 tie. Unfortunately for the Martlets, it would be the Pelicans who would get the game-winning goal in the 88th min. A great game was played by all. The team wrench would be passed on to Blanc for his big game in net. Westminster looks to take the next few days to recover and hopefully get a few more bodies back for the away game at Canterbury this weekend.
