"Westminster School seeks curious and engaged students who want to grow and learn in a challenging and supportive environment. Students who are motivated to become their best selves both in and out of the classroom, taking advantage of the myriad of opportunities Westminster has to offer."
“At Westminster, we aspire to an extraordinarily ambitious commitment to secondary education, a commitment to nurture the participation of our diverse school community across our entire program — from academics, to studios and labs, gyms, fields and rink, and service to our Hartford community partners. Westminster students are inspired by opportunities to make a difference in all their endeavors.”
"Through gritty trial and error, Westminster students grow into independent learners who are curious, critical thinkers. With the support of faculty, students gain the skills to understand the world around them and enrich their communities at school and beyond."
"The visual and performing arts program at Westminster weaves the community together and nurtures the spirit of the Westminster campus. The arts at Westminster inspire students of all levels of experience from the very beginner to the advanced artist to practice the freedom of creative self-expression. Professional teachers guide students to work through the creative process from inception to the presentation, building a lifelong respect and appreciation for the arts."
Kerry Kendall Head of Visual and Performing Arts Department
"Athletic success at Westminster is measured not only by wins and losses, but through the bonds created between teammates and coaches, individual and team improvement, and personal growth. When students learn how to be competitors and how to cooperate with one another, they are better prepared to be citizens of the global world."
“Driven by a desire to serve young people and conscious of the opportunities for private schools to support a public purpose, Westminster School’s mission statement concludes with the call ‘to commit to a life of service beyond self.’ Westminster’s Hartford Partnership programs aim to deliver on that mission while making a direct impact on people and programs in Hartford.”
Patrick Owens Executive Director, Horizons at Westminster & Hartford Partnerships
“Involvement will be the key to your success at Westminster School. Get involved with the arts, try a sport you've never played, start your own club, run for student council. You will get out of this experience exactly what you put into it. Do these things early in your life — keep seeking more opportunities for growth.”
As they did on Wednesday, the girls faced a strong opponent and rose to the occasion. On the strength of their best passing of the season, the girls seized control of the game, dominating both possession and the territorial advantage. Still, despite taking twelve shots to the Wyverns’ two, the game was scoreless at the half. Showing no quit, the visitors came out strong to start the second half and created a playing field that was level for the first time since the opening whistle. Ironically, with the game now feeling like an even battle, it took just three minutes for the Martlets to break the tie as Ava Beckford ‘23 connected beautifully with Riley Vincent ‘23, who sent a low, hard shot into the side netting. The visitors nearly tied the game back up twice in the next ten minutes. Their first chance was thwarted by a great save from Lily Raskind ‘25, who laid out horizontally to parry a shot just wide of the net. Later, Raskind would challenge for a ball in front of the net without gaining possession. In the ensuing scramble, the ball ended up right in front of the net, but was cleared by an alert Mather Thompson ‘23. The home side breathed easier after the lead increased to two in the 53rd minute thanks to a goal from Beckford, who took delivery of a one-touch pass from Lexi Wilis ‘26 and calmly one-touched it herself from about the penalty spot off of the side bar. Caroline Pokorny ‘26 scored the hosts’ third goal in the 65th minute, gathering in a cleared ball, taking a couple of dribbles, and launching a beautiful shot over the goalie’s head from thirty yards out. The Martlets kept up the pressure for the final fifteen minutes, but the 3-0 score would stand. Shout outs for the day go to Colby Smith ‘24 and Schuyer Groves ‘26 for their numerous forays deep into enemy territory; to Vincent, who applied relentless pressure and was a handful for the Wyvern defense; and to Pokorny, who was masterful in midfield, controlling the ball and sending numerous balls into dangerous positions to create scoring chances.
