Martlets Defeat Bement

Things are finally clicking for Thirds Field Hockey. After a long stretch without scoring a goal, the Martlets took to the field firing on all cylinders. A stand out for today was Gabby de la Fe '26. Gabby started on the forward line and was involved in many plays moving the ball up the field. She also made key defensive plays by stealing the ball from Bement and stopping their offensive drives during the second half. Late in the first quarter, Cricket Beard '25 fired the ball into the circle. Lila Smith '25 assisted the ball to Gabby who scored her first goal of the season. Westminster continued an offensive attack and were able to score in the second quarter. Cricket was the catalyst again and this time connected with Marin Benoit '26 who pushed the ball past the goalie. The Martlets struck again in the third with an impressive drive from the back of the circle by Chase Hager '26, her second of the season. However, Bement stayed strong and put forth an impressive offensive effort throughout the second half. There was a close call at the end of the third where Gabby and Amara Graham '26 stopped the Phoenix attack and cleared any impending trouble. Bement continued their push in the fourth quarter and put up a solid fight. Lila showed true prowess on the field both offensively and defensively to keep Bement at bay. In the final seconds of the game, the Martlets scored one last time with an unassisted goal by Cricket. Caroline Breslav '26 had her first start as goalie. She notched two saves for the day and recorded the shutout. The team travels to Taft on Saturday to take on the Rhinos.
