Martlets Win on the Road

This Wednesday, the Martlets made the short drive down the road to Ethel Walker. A high-scoring game, the Martlets were eager to bounce back from their previous match. Four minutes into the first half, Westminster was able to get their first goal from Catherine Graves ‘24, who was assisted by first-year Mia Fluckiger ‘26. Three minutes later, Jillian Gregorski ‘24 received the ball off of a punt from goalie Elizabeth DiBlasi ‘23 and a deflection from Fluckiger. Gregorski dribbled the ball through multiple Walker defenders and scored the second goal. Shortly after, Graves dribbled the ball down the side of the field and crossed it into the box to Paige Smith ‘23 who finished it one-touch into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. A minute later, Graves had another assist; this time, she received the ball off of a corner kick and quickly found Gregorski who scored her second goal of the match. With 17 minutes left in the first half, Sarah Lenox ‘24 dribbled down the right side of the field toward the end line and played a driven ball to Laura B Friesen ‘25 who scored her first career goal! The final goal of the first half came from Lenox who was gritty in the box after a corner from Maya Goddard ‘26. Despite being down, Ethel Walker did not give up and fought hard in the second half. Due to their gritty efforts, Walkers was able to score two goals - one at the 20 minute mark and the other at the 16. The Martlets still had a few goals left in them. The seventh goal of the match came from Friesen off of an assist from teammate Lauren Neuman ‘25. With 13 minutes left in the second half, Lenox scored a beautiful goal over the keeper’s hands for her second goal of the game. The final goal of the game came from Blessing Kieh ‘24 who dribbled all the way to the net and scored. Today was a full team effort. With this win, the Martlets are 6-2 on the season. The team looks forward to their next game against the Bearcats of Hotchkiss this Wednesday, October 12th. The game will be played away at 3:15 PM.
