Westminster Wins at Home

Returning home this Saturday, the Westminster Water Polo team notched an emphatic come from behind win against the visiting Titans from Wilbraham & Monson. While the home side struck first through the steady hand of captain Mason Zottola ’23, they struggled to deal with the visitors' physicality and counter attacking threat, falling to an early deficit. Wills Erda ’24 was once again instrumental in net, coming off of his line several times to head off a fast break from the opposition. The Titans would continue to punish their opponents and went into the half with a commanding 10-5 lead. However, the home side would not be denied in the third quarter. Westminstertook advantage of several man advantages to close the deficit to two goals with three unanswered, Zottola again leading from the front alongside Andrew Pang ’24 and Owen Huang ’24. Their confidence growing, the hosts would rattle off six more unanswered to establish a strong four goal lead. The visitors would claw back to draw the deficit to a single goal but the hosts were able to close out the victory thanks to keeper Erda coming off his line to make a spectacular interception in the final moments. Will Larock ’26 also had a number of positive defensive contributions especially in the fourth quarter. Despite the chaotic end to the game, the Martlets showed true grit to come back and win the game and will look to take that momentum into next weeks games.
