Martlets Win on the Road

The Westminster Water Polo squad notched their first win of the season with a hard fought win against hosts Eaglebrook. The visitors grabbed an early lead through captain Mason Zottola ’23 who neatly finished a close range chance on the Eaglebrook goal. The home side struck back quickly, taking advantage of some defensive disorganization to take a 3-1 advantage into the second quarter. Wills Erda ’24 again led from the back with some key saves to keep the visitors in the game. After a stirring talk at the break from Coach Kendall, the visitors marched directly down pool and scored through Will Whiting ’24 who would also snatch the equalizer a short while later. The teams would go into the half square at four goals apiece. Following the half a barrage of goals from Whiting and Zottola gave the visitors their first extended lead of the game. While the hosts managed to close the gap to a single goal in the final quarter, Jason Hu ’25 and Zottola rattled home the insurance goals Westminster needed to seal the win. With a solid platform to build off of, the team will look to continue this momentum against Wilbraham & Monson this Saturday.
