Martlets Draw with Choate

Despite playing their best soccer of the season, the Martlets had to settle for a tie at Choate. For the first thirty minutes, it was all Westminster, as the girls put together long strings of passes and kept the ball in their offensive half for the vast majority of the play. Nonetheless, it was the Boars who struck first, scoring on their first attempt – an improbably perfect one-time shot from thirty yards out. The 1-0 lead held through half time and up to midway through the second half, as the hosts seized a greater share of the ball possession. The Martlets finally got the equalizer on a beautiful free kick off the foot of Riley Vincent ‘23. There would be a number of additional forays into the Boars’ box, but the game winner proved elusive. The nearest miss came when Parker Perillo ‘26 steered a Schuyler Groves ‘26 cross just wide of the net. Shout-outs today go to Mather Thompson ‘23, who anchored the defense, and Alexi Haimes ‘23 for her industriousness and playmaking in midfield.
