Martlets Fall on the Road

Westminster Girls Varsity soccer traveled to Wallingford this Friday to battle against the Wild Boars of Choate. In their first game under the lights this season, the Martlets were eager to play. Choate, backed by a large fan section, entered the game with a lot of grit and energy. The Wild Boars were able to score an early goal on the Martlets within the first six minutes of the match. The Martlets rebounded and held their own against Choate, having a few solid attacking opportunities. With 15 minutes left in the first half, however, Choate received the ball on the far right side of the 18 and scored their second goal of the game. Entering the second half, the Martlets looked to play composed. They dominated many moments in the half and had multiple close chances on the net. The Martlets were able to get a point on the board with 29 minutes left. Up in the attacking third, Kalilah Akbar ‘23 found Haley Cramer ‘24 who took a few touches before rocketing the ball past the Choate keeper’s hands. Choate responded with an additional two goals - one at the 16 and another at the 3-minute mark. While this was not the result they had hoped for, the Martlets continue to keep their head held high. The squad looks forward to their next game against Miss Porter’s School on Wednesday at 2:30 pm.
