Martlets Fall on the Road

We traveled to Northfield, MA and faced a bigger, more athletic and skilled 3rds squad from NMH, and the outcome of the game, unfortunately, was never really in doubt. Although we competed pretty well, especially in the second half, we struggled to control the ball, and most of the action was in our end of the field. All three of our goalies (George Baird ‘26, Danny Maher ‘26, and Jack Pickett ‘26) played well in the face of a lot of adversity, but a special shout-out goes to Maher, who played especially aggressively and made several diving and sliding saves. Teddy Russell ‘26 covered a lot of ground at the midfield and played with poise and control, and Evan Francis ‘26 was probably our most effective player on the back line. Julien Kocatas ‘26 had a strong second half, and the front line of Jack Fichthorn ‘26, Carter Styspeck ‘26, and co-captain Tom Boulin ‘26 generated most of our offensive pressure. Today was less about soccer and more about learning what it means to persevere through hardships; we’re hoping Saturday’s home opener against AOF brings us a more competitive game!
