Martlets Put up 8 on Kent

Westminster Girls Varsity Soccer played away at Kent this Wednesday afternoon. The Martlets quickly dominated the match. Within the first half, Westminster scored four goals, making a comeback for the opposing team a difficult task. The first to get on the board today was Kaitlyn McQueeney ‘24 at the 28-minute mark. After receiving a through ball from teammate Jillian Gregorski ‘24, McQueeney dribbled to the net and tapped the ball past the keeper. Once the first goal was scored, the next two came relatively quickly. McQueeney returned the favor to Gregorski less than three minutes after. Off of a corner, McQueeney sailed a beautiful ball into the box and Gregorski finished it into the net with a powerful header. Shortly after, Blessing Kieh ‘24 received the ball off of a throw-in from Mia Davis ‘24. Kieh dribbled the ball all the way to the house and netted it past the keeper's hands. The first half closed with a goal from Elysse Cumberland ‘24. Cumberland stole the ball at midfield,  and took it all the way down the field past multiple Kent defenders and eventually the keeper for an easy tap-in goal. The Martlets entered the second half with a bit more energy than the first and scored an additional four goals. Within three minutes into the half, first year Maya Goddard ‘26 played the ball to McQueeney at the top of the box. McQueeney was quick to take a touch, turn, and rip a shot past the outstretched arms of the Kent goalie and into the top left side of the goal. Two minutes later, Catherine Graves ‘24 and McQueeney had a great little give-and-go series in which Graves received the final ball and scored a nice goal over the hands of the keeper. Later on in the half, Graves won the ball at the midfield, dribbled past a few Kent defenders, and then played a crisp through ball to Cumberland. Cumberland then took a few touches and slot it past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the match. The final goal came from Lauren Neuman ‘25. After Sarah Lenox ‘24 played a solid long ball over the top of the backline, Neuman won her 1v1 battle with a defender and scored her first goal of the season! With this win, the Martlets are now 4-0. Another full team effort, the Martlets are eager to play again this Friday against the Wild Boars of Choate at 6:30 pm.
