New Varsity Girls’ Basketball Coach Announced for 2022
Lydia Caputi has been named the head coach of the Varsity Girls’ Basketball program at Westminster School. Lydia will take over for Bryan Tawney who has led the program for the last 13 years.
A 2014 graduate of Tabor Academy, Lydia is familiar with the college-preparatory and boarding school world. As a senior at Tabor, Lydia captained the soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. She was the recipient of the Elizabeth Taber Citizenship Award for her contributions to community life and was named the most outstanding female athlete as both a junior and senior.
After graduating from Tabor, Lydia returned to her hometown in Brunswick, Maine to attend Bowdoin College. At Bowdoin, Lydia studied sociology and gender studies, was a four-year member of the women’s basketball team and played on the women’s lacrosse team as a first-year. As a student-athlete, Lydia played in five NCAA Tournaments and as a senior captain, she helped lead the women’s basketball team to the National Championship game. She finished her basketball career at Bowdoin with 97 wins and 20 losses, and was the recipient of the Society of Bowdoin Women Athletic Award.
The daughter of two coaches, Lydia followed in her parents’ footsteps after graduation accepting the assistant women’s basketball coaching position at Trinity College. She assisted the head coach in all duties of the program, while completing her master’s degree in public policy. After three years at Trinity, Lydia served for one year as the director of basketball operations at Dartmouth.
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Lydia will teach history and serve as a college counselor.
