Martlets Roll in West Hartford

Westminster Girls Varsity Soccer traveled down the road this Saturday to play against the Wyverns of Kingswood Oxford. The Martlets took advantage of the beautiful fall day and came out with intensity, grit, and heart. From the very start, the team dominated and had many dangerous scoring opportunities as reflected in the final score of the match. Senior Emma Audi ‘22 had a day today with a hattrick - scoring all three goals in the first half and all in a row. The first goal of the three occurred within the first minute of the match. Haley Cramer ‘24 found Audi on a lofted ball over the backline. Audi was quick to take a touch and finish the ball. At the 22 minute-mark, Blessing Kieh ‘24 sent the ball to Audi who once again found the back of the net. Just two minutes later, Audi scored her third goal of the game off of an assist from Kaitlyn McQueeney ‘24. Not long after, Elysse Cumberland ‘24 dribbled to the endline and sent a driven ball into the box for Jillian Gregorski ‘23 to finish one touch into the Wyvern net. The final goal of the first half came from Kieh who was hungry to score. After a great first touch, Kieh dribbled by two KO defenders and placed the ball in the back of the net off of a breakaway. The teams broke for half with the Martlets leading 5-0. Two additional goals were scored in the second half thanks to midfielder Sarah Lenox ‘24 and center-back Bianca D’Onofrio ‘23. With 35 minutes left in the match, Gregorski dribbled the ball endline off of a corner play and passed the ball into the 18 to Lenox who finished it. This goal marks Lenox’s first Westminster career goal. A little over ten minutes later, Avery Boulanger ‘25 played the ball into D’Onofrio who sunk the ball into the back of the KO net. Today was a full team effort as all twenty-six girls played solid minutes today. With this win, the Martlets are 9-2-1 on the season. The team looks forward to having a productive week in practice before their next game on Saturday, Oct. 30th versus Canterbury. The game will be played at home at 2:00 pm.
