Tough Opener for Girls' Soccer

This Saturday, the Martlets traveled to Northfield Mount Hermon to challenge the Hoggers in their fall 2021 season opener. Having not played an official game since the fall of 2019, players, coaches, and spectators alike were eager to get the game started. At the first whistle, the Martlets came out strong and did a solid job of controlling the ball, completing passes, and defending with grit. Westminster was able to find the back of the net within the first five minutes as junior Jillian Gregorski ‘23 assisted senior teammate Emma Audi ‘22 on a beautiful through ball. Emma Audi ‘22 was quick to find the right back corner of the net and celebrate her first official Westminster career goal. Both teams battled throughout the remainder of the first half. Despite a few chances on net, junior goalie Elizabeth DiBlasi ‘23 managed to keep the Hoggers scoreless through the first forty with the help of her backline. The second half proved to be more of a challenge for the Martlets, as NMH was able to take advantage of their opportunities and score two goals within the last twenty minutes of play. Although Westminster had numerous chances to equalize, they were unlucky in their pursuits. The Martlets look forward to rebounding this upcoming Wednesday, as they head north to play Deerfield Academy at 3:30 pm.
