Martlets Open Season with a Win

Thirds Girls’ Soccer travelled with the other Westminster Girls Soccer teams to Northfield Mount Hermon for their first game of the season. The first half proved to be a challenge as the Martlets had trouble finding open space and turned the ball over often. One of those turnovers converted into a goal for NMH. New goalie Mei Yin Ren ‘25 was busy in the net, and made several amazing saves in that half. The team regrouped after the half coming out with a game-tying score several minutes in thanks to a deep corner pass from midfielder Sarah Rocchio ‘24 which striker Cecily Belford ‘24 scooped up and drove to the net. She followed with a fantastic score past a diving goalie. Several minutes later Emma King ‘24 forced her way past the defenders after receiving a pass from striker Tessa Sorenson ‘24, and put another in the net. The defense held up for the remainder of the game, securing a hard-fought victory. It was a true team effort.
