Hockey - First Girls’
NEPSAC Tournaments: Elite 8 Chuck Vernon New England Tournament Quarterfinal
March 4: Hockey - First Girls’ 0 vs. Noble and Greenough 3
Westminster faced a tough Nobles team in the quarterfinals of the New England Chuck Vernon Tournament. The game was fast-paced from the beginning, but Westminster battled to steal the momentum. Nobles capitalized on an odd man rush in the first and the period ended with the Martlets down 1-0. The second period included some of the best play of the season. Sixth Form co-captain Megan Rittenhouse led the way by taking every opportunity to get the puck to the net. The team had to kill a tough penalty, but Taylor Adams '20 stepped up and broke up the play, pushing for a short-handed rush. By the middle of the second period, Westminster was closing the gap in shots and feeling the momentum. Goalie Mandy Busky '21 was outstanding as she kept her team within one. The best chance came on the power play when Abby Munger '20 let a hard shot go from the half wall. Jenny Guider '20 had a chance at the rebound, but the Nobles goalies held on. Down by just one goal headed into the third, Westminster gave its all. Coaches Jess Keough and Kelcie Finn were proud of the resilience and grit of the team. Making the playoffs was an incredible milestone for this group of Sixth Formers and a testament to their commitment to this team over the past four years. While the result was not what we hoped for, the team capped off an incredible season with Grit and Grace. The team thanks Sixth Formers Adams, Guider, Munger and Rittenhouse for their outstanding work this year!

Diving - First Girls'
March 4: New England Dive Championships
Westminster hosted the NEPSAC Division II and III Diving Championships.
The first event of this year's New England Championships went off at Westminster with a fantastic showing from the Martlets. Co-captain Cecilia Raymond '20 placed second in the 1-meter diving event, followed by Ola Szopa '20 and Riley Vincent '23, in fifth and sixth, respectively. Raymond's score was enough to earn her All-American Consideration, and Ola and Riley both put up their best scores yet.
Their points were added to the team totals at this weekend's New England Division II Swimming Championships, which were held in Vermont. The girls put the team in a great position with 39 points already on the board.

March 7: New England Championship
The 2019-20 swimming and diving season ended with some spectacular swims at the NEPSAC Division II Championships in White River Junction, Vermont. The coaches were so proud of the athletes. There were so many lifetime best times and true breakout swims from the swimmers. They were on fire!

The boys took home some hardware, finishing second in the overall team standings, and the girls finished fourth overall.

There were too many notable performances to list, but really unbelievable swimming all the way around. Coach Grant Gritzmacher can't recall how many times he got the chills as Westminster swimmers finished their races and read their times off the scoreboard (often in disbelief), but it happened often. It's a great feeling.

Thank you to assistant coaches Jake Cahill, Amanda Rappold and Mary Pat Gritzmacher for their work with — and safe transport of — the athletes this season and especially this weekend. Huge thank you to Kathleen Schuster for organizing the coaches' hospitality room at the meet and team meals, and to all the parents who contributed to the running of the meet and the feeding, supporting, timing, hydrating, shaving, disinfecting and comforting of the team this weekend. Thank you also to Mark de Kanter for serving as the meet announcer and for his continued commitment to the program.

Thank you all for a great season. One, quite literally, for the record books.
