Boys Split Double Dual, Re-Break Medley Relay Record

The Martlets swam fast Saturday and almost caught Hopkins by surprise, but still came away with a convincing win over Avon Old Farms and some promising races heading into the championship season. The 200 medley relay team of Max Larock '22, Eddie Shin '21, Jason Shi '21 and Layton Harmon '21 edged out the Hopkins team to win with a school record time of 1:42.02, lowering the mark they set last week against Kingswood. Kieran Haug '21 and Justin Shi '21 finished second and third in the 200 freestyle, both with season best times. Co-captain Hudson Stedman '21 took second in the 200 IM with his fastest time yet this year, and Jason Shi and Harmon placed second and third, respectively, in the 50 freestyle, both with season-best times. Jason Shi also took second in the 100 fly, and Larock won the 100 freestyle and the 100 back. Stedman took second in the 500 free, Shin took third in the 100 breaststroke with his fastest time this year, and the team of Owen Huang '23, Jason Shi, Harmon and Larock won the 400 freestyle relay. Other Martlets with notable swims included Huang (best time in the 200 free), Spence Kwan ’22 (best times in the 200 IM and the 100 breast), co-captain Daniel Pinckney '20 (best time in the 500 freestyle), Justin Shi (best time in the 100 fly), Harmon (best time in the 100 fly) and Jakub McKinney '23 (best times in the 50 free and 100 breast). The boys proved they are gearing up for the Founders League Championships next weekend and the New England Championships March 7, setting the stage today for some fast swimming in the weeks ahead.
