Girls Bring Home a Road Win

In a year when most of their matches have been at home, it felt a bit unfamiliar for the girls to climb onto a van for a contest. Despite the long ride to Kent (and the long layoff since their last match two weeks ago), the Martlets were ready to compete, and brought back a 6-1 win. The Lions' outstanding No.1 was untouchable, winning in three (1, 3, 1), but the favor was returned by Kaylee Hunt '20 (5, 5, 3) at No. 2, Clara Ekholm '20 at No. 5 (1, 4, 6) and Eve Cathcart '20 at No. 7 (1, 8, 4) – and by Gemma Green '21 in the exhibition match (2, 3, 5). At No. 6, Lauren Way '20 was slow out of the gate, but eventually found her stride ((9), 8, 9, 1). At No. 3, Rebecca Sargent '20 controlled her match with power and length, but her scrappy, counterpunching opponent still stretched her to four (4, (8), 7, 6). The tightest match of the day was a four game win for Nicole Smith '23 at No. 4, in which all of the games were decided by two points (10, (9), 12, 9). The match should leave the girls primed for Nationals this weekend.
