Girls Pick Up Two Wins at Kent, Benoit Sets Pool Record

The girls traveled to Kent and came away with wins over Kent and Ethel Walker, putting up some strong swims and dives, including a win and a new Kent pool record from Lucy Benoit ’23 in the 200 IM (2:10.73). The girls jumped out to an early lead by placing first and third in the 200 medley relay, swum by Benoit, Margaret Breen ’23, Katherine Ashe ’21 and Ellie Thorson ’21. Thorson went on to win the 50 and 100 freestyle events, with Breen taking second in the 100 and Benoit won the 100 fly with Ashe in third. Co-captain Cece Raymond ’20 and Ola Szopa ’20 placed first and second in the diving, respectively, and Sydney Schuster ’21 and Simonne Ponce ’21 finished second and third in the 500 freestyle — Schuster with a season-best and Ponce with a lifetime best time. Ashe, Benoit, Breen and Thorson won the 200 freestyle relay, and the team of Janessa Yan ’22, Schuster, Catie McGuigan ’23 and Ponce placed third. Campbell Swift ’21 was second in the 100 back with a lifetime best, and Ponce, India Lalor ’21, Annie Brewer ’21 and Swift took third in the 400 free relay. The girls fought through fatigue after a tough week of training, and they will continue to put the hay in the barn next week in preparation for the Hibbard Invitational at Westminster Saturday.
